11Alive and TEGNA Foundation award grants to 5 nonprofits in metro Atlanta

ATLANTA — 11Alive and the TEGNA Foundation, a charitable foundation sponsored by TEGNA Inc., awarded five nonprofits in the community with grants to support workforce development in metro Atlanta.

The five nonprofits receiving the funds are Cafe Momentum – Momentum Advisory Collective, CareerRise, Latin American Association, UNCF and the YMCA of Metro Atlanta.

Here’s more about each entity and how the funds will support their missions.

Café Momentum – Momentum Advisory Collective

Café Momentum supports youth workforce development. With a model first built in Dallas, the restaurant and social enterprise provides a paid workforce development internship with services and care for justice-involved youth ages 15 through 19. The Atlanta restaurant openingis set for 2025 in Downtown.

CareerRise

CareerRise is a workforce intermediary that works to strengthen partnerships to meet employer needs for skilled talent and connect metro Atlanta residents to sustainable wage careers.

The funds support services and career-path counseling for those who are unemployed, underemployed, or those who are dislocated workers participating in the Westside Works collaborative.

Latin American Association

The Latin American Association (LAA) is known for empowering Latinos to thrive. The funds will support the organization’s Women’s Economic development program to help clients start and grow a business. 

UNCF

UNCF was founded in the 1940s to help more African American students attend and complete college. The funds will support Black college students in Atlanta HBCUs to encourage graduation.

YMCA of Metro Atlanta

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta provides all kinds of resources for the community. The funds will be used to support the YMCA’s Boys and Young Men of Color strategy that’s designed to address education and disparities that affect young men of color. The program provides college and career training, financial literacy, leadership development and job placement services.
