TRISTYN WILLIAMS was 15, pregnant and living in a juvenile rehabilitation center in Texas. The world was closing in on her, and there seemed to be no way forward. She was also haunted by a judge’s warning that if she messed up again, the punishment would be more severe. “I was on my last string,” Williams recalled. “My whole world was going to explode.” After her release in March of 2019, she became discouraged after applying for several jobs and never hearing back.
